Ways to Give During the Holiday Season

As we ease into the season of giving thanks and gifts, perhaps you are looking for a meaningful way to give back to South Florida’s Jewish community.

For more than 50 years, The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has been a trusted partner that works with donors, professional advisors, and Jewish agencies and synagogues to ensure a strong Jewish future in Miami, Israel and around the world. Here are some ways the Foundation suggests you can give back to the community this season:

Legacy Gifts: Legacy gifts can be customized to fit the donors’ lifestyle, family, and financial needs while ensuring that the gift supports the Federation and causes deemed important to the donor. Options are numerous and include a gift in a will, trust, life insurance policy, or retirement account. Legacy gifts are an easy and tax-effective way to support your Jewish community.

Matching Gifts: Many companies will match their employees’ donations to charitable causes. Because the Greater Miami Jewish Federation is a non-profit social service organization, your company may be willing to match your donations such as monthly payroll deductions or annual gifts. Utilizing this often overlooked benefit can make your financial gift even more impactful.

Tzedakah Fund: If you are looking to honor someone for an important event or milestone, donating to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Tzedakah fund enables you to send a personalized tribute card with your donation of $18 or more. The proceeds from this fund go to support emergency needs within the Jewish community.

Teen Giving: Do you want to get your teens started toward a lifetime of philanthropy? The Federation offers several meaningful programs that help pre-Bar/Bat Mitzvah teens experience the value in giving back to their community through service projects.

Vehicle Donation: A great way to help those in need in the community as well as earn a tax deduction is through donation of a car, truck, boat, or RV.

Gifts of Securities: Another way to earn a tax benefits for your gift is by a transfer of appreciated securities. Transferring appreciated securities held more than one year can give you a double benefit as it enables you to avoid paying capital gains tax as well as affording you the standard charitable donations deduction.

However you choose to give this season, know that your generosity is impacting and serving the South Florida Jewish community.
